Christmas lights in Lisbon are already active. But only on the second try…
ANDn the countdown to the moment, when it reached zero, Carlos Moedas and Rosário Farmhouse pressed the button that would turn on the lights of the Christmas tree in Praça do Comércio but… nothing happened.
The moment was recorded on video, this Monday, in a live broadcast by the Lisbon City Council.
“Ooooooh” can be heard in unison when the lights don’t come on. In this video you can see how, shortly afterwards, both the tree and the facades of the buildings light up.
It should be recalled that, as the municipality had already revealed, this year “it chose to reduce the hours for Christmas lighting, guaranteeing a 50% saving in energy consumption compared to last year”.
Thus, the hours of traditional Christmas illuminations will be from 6 pm to 11 pm from Sunday to Thursday, from 6 pm to midnight on Friday and Saturday, and from 6 pm to 1 am on Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.
In addition, the lighting is done “using low-consumption lamps with LED technology”.
