Calais: new measures against migrant squats
According to some politicians, the situation in Calais has greatly improved since the dismantling of the migrant jungle in 2015. Yet these undocumented populations still occupy several squats. the residents’ nightmare continues. Expensive measures are needed to try to manage the migration crisis.
Rue des Huttes: the new riprap squat
The unfortunately famous squat on rue des Huttes will be blocked by rocks within a few days. The mayor of Calais, Natacha Bouchart, issued a municipal decree to block the street for 3 days from December 8. She reported numerous complaints from employees working in nearby businesses. They would be regularly annoyed and feel insecure. The city councilor also invokes the safety of the migrants themselves. Many heavy goods vehicles regularly go back and forth in the rue des Huttes.
A similar operation had already taken place at the end of September. But, it required new riprap for maximum effectiveness. The cost of this operation for the town hall amounts to 45,000 euros, local taxpayers will appreciate paying for the trouble caused by people who have nothing to do with French.
But other squats are still a problem
The elected national rally of the city, Marc De Fleurian, regularly denounces the violence and incivility perpetrated by migrants housed in squats thanks to the support of far left activists.
The police had to intervene recently to secure the surroundings of a house in which the migrants had tried to enter.
Another illustration of the daily life of the inhabitants also denounced by the elected official.
These measures only postpone the problems. Migrants move a few streets. They do not wish to occupy the spaces reserved for them.
Is this the type of people that the teacher of the Watteau high school de Valenciennes wanted to bring his students together?
Life for Calaisians is still hell. They experience daily insecurity. Woe to them who cannot sell their house to go elsewhere.
Today takes place in the National Assembly the debate on the immigration bill led by Gérald Darmanin. Let’s hope that the difficult situation in Calais, which has become so habitual for the public authorities that it tends to be forgotten.
