The US Navy’s Ticonderoga-class cruiser USS Leyte Gulf visited Slovenia
According to information released by the US Department of Defense on December 5, 2022, the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55) arrived in Koper, Slovenia for a scheduled port visit.

Before arriving in Koper, Leyte Gulf participated in the NATO-led multinational exercise Neptune Strike 22.2, aimed at tactical training of NATO units.
Leyte Gulf, part of the George HW Bush Ship Strike Group, participated alongside the Italian Navy destroyer ITS Caio Duilio (D 554), ITS Carabiniere (F 593) and the Albanian Coast Guard ships ALS Lissus (P 133) and ALS Butrinti (P 134). .
In Slovenia, the leaders of the ship will meet with state and local political representatives, which will strengthen relations between the two NATO countries. The Leyte Gulf crew will participate in a community relations opportunity in Bodrež, Slovenia, where the Sailors will beautify the infrastructure of the local camp together with the Scout Association of Slovenia.
Based in Norfolk, Virginia, Leyte Gulf is operating as part of the USS George HW Bush Strike Group operating in the US Sixth Fleet area of operations as part of a planned deployment.
USS Leyte Gulf (CG-55) is a Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser of the United States Navy. It was named after the World War II battle at Leyte Gulf in the Pacific Ocean.
It is powered by four large gas turbine engines and has a large array of guided missiles for air defense, sea and land surface attack and anti-submarine warfare (ASW). In addition, it has two LAMPS “Seahawk” multirole helicopters whose primary mission is ASW.
