Sports, Alpine skiing | Johanne (20) is in the top ten in Norway – and now some tests stand between her and the European Cup race
Last weekend she won two slalom races in Levi in Finland and is now ranked as the 7th best female alpine skier in Norway.
– I have been told that I am qualified for the E-cup race, but I just have to pass some physical tests before it is all clear. Among other things, I have to go through 3,000 metres, bench press, squats and abdominal exercises, and if I can’t do it this month, I can do them later. I think it will go just fine, says Eilertsen.
Damage
The 20-year-old talks about a season run-up that has gone according to plan.
– After several years of injuries and problems with the neck and head, things are now going great. My body has worked very well in the run-up to the season and I have participated in everything, says Eilertsen, who also has big ambitions as an alpine skier.
– The long-term goal is to become the world’s best alpine skier, but first I have to assert myself nationally and in the European Cup. I have started climbing and I am happy with the ranking right now in Norway, says Eilertsen.
NM medal
Besides the European Cup, the Norwegian Championship (NM) is the big goal of the March season.
– The NM is in Trysil, this will move now, and there the goal is a podium place. Slalom is the discipline, but I have to be able to assert myself in giant slalom as well. However, I need more time to get in shape in giant slalom, says Eilertsen.
Before Christmas, she will run FIS races both in Bjorli and in Trysil.
– It will be hectic both before and after Christmas. It’s almost every weekend this winter, and there won’t be time to be at home much in Sortland, says Eilertsen.
