South Korea-Portugal recorded 3.2 million viewers
O third and final game of the group stage of the Portuguese football team at the 2022 World Cup, taking place in Qatar, in which Portugal lost 1-2 against South Korea, was broadcast by SIC and contour “with a total of 3.2 million people watching, with an average audience of 1.8 million and ‘share’ of 60.3%”, says an analysis by Universal McCann, media agency of the Mediabrands group.
The broadcast of the game on Sport TV “registered a total of 2,218 thousand viewers, with an average audience of 1,154 thousand and 4.9% of ‘share’, behind the Brazil x Serbia game, in terms of audiences”, adds the Universal McCann (UM), noting that “this was the Portugal game that recorded the lowest audience to date, mainly due to the time (15:00) and the fact that Portugal has already qualified for the round of 16”.
The transmission by SIC “had a great impact for the channel, since it registered a ‘share’ of 22.8%, an increase of 6.6 percentage points compared to the accumulated average of the month of November”.
The third game of the Portuguese team “recorded a lower audience when compared to the last group stage games of other championships, such as Euro 2020 and the 2018 World Cup”, says UM.
“Analyzing the game minute by minute, a growth trend was expected throughout the broadcast” and “after South Korea’s goal, the audiences were inconsistent, but the audiences in the second half were always growing until very close to the final whistle”, he adds.
The peak of audiences “was registered during the minutes of compensation”, he concludes.
The game with the highest audience was Portugal – Uruguay, seen by more than five million people, the second for the Portuguese team.
