New drone base: New technology and base IBK enables area-wide use
The new drone base and the new drones of the Innsbruck fire brigade were presented to the public. Together with the existing drone bases in Kufstein and Landeck, the fire brigade can now use drones across the board in all of Tyrol.
INNSBRUCK. Vice Mayor Johannes Anzengruber and fire director Helmut Hager from the professional fire brigade Innsbruck present the new drone base and the new drones of the Innsbruck fire brigade together with other representatives of the state fire brigade association and the voluntary fire brigades.
“I am delighted that the Tirol Mitte drone base in Innsbruck can go into operation. Drones can be used in many different ways in operations. Especially in danger zones, drones can now be used for reconnaissance instead of emergency personnel. This also increases the safety of the emergency personnel,” Anzengruber adds.

“Drones can be used in a variety of ways to support operations, such as creating a picture of the situation from above, detecting embers after forest fires or searching for missing people,” explains fire director Helmut Hager from the professional fire brigade.
The new drone base Innsbruck is operated by the Innsbruck professional fire brigade in cooperation with the voluntary fire brigades Amras and Arzl, drone pilots from the fire brigades are ready for action every day. “The drone bases in Kufstein and Landeck, which have existed for several years, will be continued and, together with the Innsbruck base, guarantee a nationwide network of drones that are ready for use anytime and anywhere in Tyrol,” Hager continues.

In addition to the new drone base, the drone equipment has also been expanded and renewed. The reinforcement of the drones consists of state-of-the-art models. So the drones z. B. equipped with thermal imaging cameras and powerful headlights. The drone operators Daniel Fürhaupter and Stefan Peintner from the Innsbruck fire brigade demonstrate the work with the new drones in an on-site simulation.
“In an emergency, every second counts. Modern technical means such as drones, which can support emergency services in a targeted manner, save human lives. Savings should not be made at the wrong end here, nor should progress be ignored. The equipment of our emergency services is therefore always up to date”, emphasizes Anzengruber.
