More and more crowds at social markets

Inflation and rising prices for heating and living expenses are forcing more and more people to shop in social markets. They are coming under more pressure because of the demand. In addition, there are apparently fewer goods issued by supermarket chains and the food industry.
The Flachgauer Tafel, for example, is now located directly on Wolfgangsee-Strasse in Koppl (Flachgau). According to the team at this small shop, more and more people have been coming to shop for a few months.
Bakeries and other expenses less
If you receive significantly fewer donations of goods than before, says Reinhard Kallinger, famous chairman of the Flachgauer Tafel: “We are currently getting by with our donations, but the goods are becoming fewer and fewer. The shops are apparently more responsible with the goods, they no longer produce as much – be it with the bakers or in purchasing. This is a good development, but of course it is at our expense.”
SOMA in the city is well taken care of
It is different in the SOMA social market in the state capital. There are enough donations of goods, says seller Elisabeth Dank: “We don’t have that problem. That doesn’t mean we can’t take something else. But we can still give customers everything they need.”
Spokesmen for the supermarket chains also emphasize that food donations have not decreased. The NEOS in the Salzburg state parliament are now demanding that the state of Salzburg should support the social markets more.
