Kyocera AVX is cutting jobs in Salzburg
Kyocera AVX, formerly AB-Microelectronics and taken over by the US AVX Group, is reducing around a third of the workforce at the Salzburg delivery location. The company manufactures electronics and special components for the automotive industry. Trade unionist Daniela Wiermeier from the Salzburg ÖGB is quoted as saying that 82 of the 241 employees have already been registered with the Public Employment Service (AMS).
The reasons for the staff reduction are delivery problems and price increases for semiconductor components, which have caused sales to deteriorate massively. At the same time, demand in the international sales area and in the automotive industry has declined.
According to the management of Kyocera, this step is intended to stabilize and preserve the Salzburg location. The company is struggling with procurement problems with components that are important for its own products. The company would continue to face challenges from the effects of global economic tensions. The currently sharply rising raw material, energy and production costs are having a significant impact on the business.
