Festival Krumlov published the program of the 32nd edition
18 concerts, 11 concert venues, dozens of foreign and hundreds of Czech performers will connect in the main program of the 32nd annual Český Krumlov International Music Festival from July 14 to August 5, 2023. For example, pianist Alexandr Melnikov, tenor Charles Castronovo, violinist Vadim will visit South Bohemia Gluzman and others. The accompanying program in the Festival Zone will offer concerts, art, exercise and educational activities for free.
The Český Krumlov International Music Festival is once again a cultural show, where since 1992, music from the 15th to the 21st centuries has been presented every year. During the festival’s history, more than 12,000 artists from 40 countries have performed at it. Among them are famous singers such as Plácido Domingo, Jonas Kaufmann, Renée Fleming, Karel Gott or Dagmar Pecková. Around 20,000 people visit the festival every year.
Music from around the world and several anniversaries
Opening concert called French night will return the festival after twenty years to the poetic scenery of the Letní jízdárny. Pianist Alexander Melnikov will state Camillo Saint-Saëns Piano Concerto No. 5 accompanied by Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton Robert Jindry. In front of the silhouette of the Český Krumlov castle, other works by French composers of Romanticism and Impressionism will be heard, Alexander Duparc AND Claude Debussy. Bolero Maurice Ravel will be complemented by stirring dance choreography. The entire evening will commemorate one of the key dates in European history – July 14, 1789, i.e. the fall of the Bastille.

The second concert with the title Opera gala commemorates the opera great, whose birth will be 210 years old – Giuseppe Verdi. Soloists Zuzana Marková AND Charles Castro accompanied PKF – Prague Philharmonic under the leadership David Giménez Carreras. A combination of opera and ballet called Il Boemo&Wranitzky they approached the Czech composer who became famous in Europe in the 18th century. Historical interpretation of their work available Wranitzky Kapelle the conductor Mark Štilec. He lends his voice to Myslivečka’s arias Simona Šaturová.
At the concert Viva España temperamental and romantic zarzuelas, typical Spanish operetta melodies, will be heard, authentically performed by soloists Beatriz Díaz AND Pablo Garcia-López. Guitarist Rafael Aguirre will perform with Conciertem de Aranjuez Joaquín Rodrigo. Orchestra PKF – Prague Philharmonic an accomplished conductor Manuel Hernández-Silva.
Concert Vadim Gluzman and young talents will be a celebration of the violinist’s 50th birthday together with the winners of the talent competition Virtuosos V4+. Evening titled Bernstein meets Gershwin will again connect two American composers, whose births will be 125 and 105 years this year. Classical and musical works by both authors will be performed by New York Broadway singers Nikki Renée Daniels AND Jeff Kready accompanied by North Bohemian Philharmonic Teplice with the conductor Jan Kučera.

Non-traditional location and frivolous classic
“We want the festival to become an organic part of life in the city. We therefore include new, sometimes experimental places in the main program. A non-traditional connection Slovak Mucha’s Quartet mima Vladimir Kulíšek will be hosted by the Cultural Center of the Laundry. Chamber concerts will also be hosted by the Masquerade Hall of the Český Krumlov Castle. A violinist will perform in it Josef Špaček with pianist Miroslav Sekyra, Smetana’s trio or a pianist David Kalhous and his guests. Two organ concerts will connect the festival with master classes of Mecca organists. Lecturers will play in the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows and in the church in Zlatá Koruna Christophe Mantoux, Jaroslav Toma AND Pavel Svoboda and course participants. In the church of St. Mikuláš in Boletice, lit by candles, will be performed by a vocal quartet Bohemia Voice.

A playful invitation to the world of classical music will be offered by the penultimate production of the festival named A non-serious classic. Unusual solo instruments will convince the audience that classical music certainly does not lack wit and perspective. There will be soprano solos Patricia Janečková and an actor will appear in a surprising role Jan Budar.
The 32nd edition of the festival will conclude with a concert Famous opera choruses and Carmina Burana. He will be his star Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno with the choirmaster Peter Fiala. Foreign soloists Adrian Kučerová, Steven La Brie AND Anthony Gregory in the final he adds B. Martinů Philharmonic guided Daniel Raiskin.
