Economou against Tsipras on wiretapping: Justice in Greece is fulfilling its role
Attack on the official opposition leader Alexis Tsipras in the shadow of his statements after the visit of Supreme Court prosecutor Isidoros Dogiakofired the government spokesman Giannis Oikonomou.
Mr. Oikonomou underlined that Justice in Greece fulfills its role as one of the main pillars of our Republic.
“In the face of substantiated complaints and valid allegations, he intervenes and does not allow the slightest shade. We are sure that he does the same with regard to what has been published in the last period”, Mr. Economou emphasized to add.
“The government has from the very beginning declared its absolute confidence in the ongoing judicial investigation. This is the only institutionally correct way in order to clarify every aspect of this case regarding either the perpetrators or the fiction writers. We welcome Mr. Tsipras, who today expressed his confidence in the institution of the Greek Justice, to this understanding.”
However, the government representative, referring to Mr. Tsipras, emphasized that “it is extremely dangerous and nationally damaging, especially in the circumstances, not to suggest that the Prime Minister does not trust the leadership of the Armed Forces of our country”.
Tsipras’ concern about wiretapping
Earlier, Mr. Tsipras, after visiting the prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Isidoros Dogiako, expressed his deep concern about the wiretapping cases.
“I want to hope and I hope that in this country the institutions of Democracy still work” said Mr. Tsipras, expressing his confidence in the institution of Greek justice.
“The revelations of the last few months about the transformation of the EYP into a para-institutional paracenter for monitoring political leaders, MPs, MEPs, ministers, journalists, businessmen, and even judges is a great blow to democracy itself, it puts it at risk.
The monitoring of the heads of the Armed Forces puts our national security at risk,” he added.
“We all have a responsibility not to let this heavy shadow hover over our political system but also over the country’s armed forces.
We all know that the sole responsibility for the search of the facts and evidence, the clarification of this case, the sole responsibility for the search for the facts and evidence.
And we all know where the facts and evidence are. Where, on the basis of it, the laws of the provisions and monitoring orders from the EYP are obliged to be observed and of course to those who are subject to the provisions and orders of the monitoring.
I want to hope and I hope that in this country the institutions of Democracy still work.
And I want to close by expressing my confidence in the institution of the Greek Justice”.
