Voices from Salzburg: Mourning for the public’s favorite Karl Merkatz
Governor Haslauer and Deputy Berthold Condolences to the family and next of kin of the deceased actor Karl Merkatz. Throughout his career, he was closely associated with Salzburg.
STRASSWALCHEN. The popular actor Karl Merkatz, who was born in Wiener Neustadt, died at the age of 92 in Irrsdorf im Flachgau. “Throughout his career, he always had a strong bond with Salzburg,” said a broadcast from the state on Sunday. Karl Merkatz, who died in Irrsdorf at the age of 92, graduated from the Mozarteum, played at the Salzburg State Theater and for the Salzburg Festival and lived in Straßwalchen to the end.

“It is with great sadness that I learned today of Karl Merkatz’s passing. Whether as Edmund ‘Mundl’ Sackbauer, Karl Bockerer or in his countless theater roles, he has set himself a lasting monument as a public favorite and Austrian acting legend,” says Governor Wilfried Haslauer and condoled to the family and next of kin of the deceased.
