Rome has its Tower of Pisa: the leaning kiosk of Aurelio
Even Rome has its Leaning Tower of Pisa. This is what the inhabitants of the Aurelio called a lopsided bar overlooking the ring road, in Piazza San Giovanni Battista de La Salle, open 24 hours a day. The reason for the difference can be recognized with the naked eye: the ground under the baracchino is giving way. The kiosk has always appeared a little crooked, but lately the tilt seems to have gotten worse. Seen from inside it is even more impressive: the floor is steep like a mountain path, if you drop a glass you have to chase it as it rolls downhill, the bartenders work with one leg higher and one lower. The experts say that the building is stable and apparently there are no immediate dangers, but sooner or later someone will have to undertake a consolidation work. First, however, it will be necessary to clarify the competences, responsibilities, cadastral ownership, and state ownership, and in short, we are still in Rome. In the meantime, let’s enjoy our little Leaning Tower of Pisa which won’t be instagrammable like the Tuscan one, with its aluminum fixtures and neon signs, but where can you find another place to drink a coffee that fits diagonally in the cup, and perhaps this looks better.
