Greece-Australia: Closer and on an academic level

Sugar Mizzy December 4, 2022

The Greek Authorities are now simplifying the process of recognizing degrees obtained from Universities in Australia, as announced by the Australian Embassy in Athens.

“Degrees from 45 Australian universities are now recognized in Greece, with a very simple and clear procedure,” said the relevant post of the embassy on social media, speaking of “excellent news.”

Update that “Greece passed law 4957/2022 making the process of recognizing degrees from universities included in the National Register of Recognized Foreign Universities much simpler.” Holders of a Bachelor (minimum 3 years), Masters (minimum 1 year), Juris Doctor or PhD from the 45 Australian universities listed (below) can no longer expect to be awarded academic parity within 60 days of submitting the application to DOATAP (Interdisciplinary Organization for the Recognition of Academic and Informant Titles), www.doatap.gr».

On this matter, it is recalled, the Greek ambassador of Australia to Greece, Arthur Spyrou, had a meeting with the Minister of Education of Greece, Niki Kerameos, at the beginning of June 2022.

Mr. Spyrou then pointed out that in addition to the issue of the “expected mutual recognition of university degrees” the further confusion of the relations between the two countries was also discussed, mainly in the educational sector with the exchange of students and other initiatives.

Ms. Kerameos has stated that her vision is for Greece to become a world-class educational center that attracts students, professors and researchers from all over the world.

In this context, it had become known that DOATAP will also “change” in terms of the evaluation of applications for the recognition of Greek degrees in Greece, as the old system has… educated quite a few graduates from Australia as well, including many expatriates per the years.

The new law also provides for the “almost automatic recognition of Australian university degrees”, the Australian embassy in Athens said, noting that “it is a very important step that will promote job mobility, the transfer of knowledge and closer ties between people between their. Australia and Greece!”.

According to the embassy (access to the relevant DOATAP website was not possible on Sunday at least), the Australian universities that are currently on the list of recognized foreign universities (from Greece, according to Article 307 of the new law) are the following:
