City of Brussels deviating housing premium for people with disabilities
People with a disability who want to furnish their home in an adapted way can count on a higher premium in the city of Brussels. The maximum amount doubles to 2,000 euros.
Alderman for Equal Opportunities Lydia Mutyebele (PS) reports this at the end of the Week of the Handicap in Brussels City. The decision was confirmed by the council on Thursday.
The City already had premières for people with disabilities through the Land Management. For example, anyone who wants to install a stairlift, ramp or double door can be reimbursed up to half of those costs, with a maximum amount of 1,000 euros for the time being. That maximum amount has now doubled to 2,000 euros. Not only owners, but also co-owners of tenants are eligible.
“With this decision, we emphasize the autonomy and recognition of these people in their access to housing,” says alderman Mutyebele.
Medical certificate
The conditions to get the premiere have also been relaxed. Now a medical certificate of permanent physical or mental disability is sufficient to ensure that a comment can be made. Previously, the disability had to be compulsorily recognized by the Federal Directorate-General for Persons with Disabilities. An application must be submitted to the Land Management.
The premium only applies to disabled people living in the city of Brussels. Throughout the Region, the Renolution plan provides separate renovation premiums for owners with disabilities, Secretary of State for Equal Opportunities Nawal Ben Hamou (PS) signed this week.
