According to a recent survey by KMU Forschung Austria, around 34% of Tyroleans give their children presents on St. Nicholas Day, and 35% buy presents for their partner. On average, 50 euros are spent on this. In addition, Santa Claus is also an additional source of revenue for retailers.
“In the food trade, you can probably feel that chocolate Santa Clauses and other sweet gifts are at the top of the hit list”confirmed industry spokesman Stephen Mair.
In addition to sweets (84%) and cash (20%), Santa Claus is particularly fond of bringing toys (19%). Also happy about that Alexandra Risk, spokeswoman for the Tyrolean toy trade: “Of course, the time before Christmas is enormously important to us. With full warehouses and well-stocked shops, we are well prepared. With us, every Santa Claus and every Christkindl will surely find the right present.”

There are numerous events this weekend all about St. Nicholas and the Krampus. Indian Music Hall takes place on 3.12. (Saturday) from 5 p.m. the third Krampus and Perchten run will take place. Höttinger Müller is looking forward to Sunday, December 4th. from 5 p.m. to many visitors at the Nikolaus procession. Also on Sunday, December 4th. from 5:00 p.m., St. Nicholas gives sweets to the children in Igls. Then from around 5:45 p.m. Krampus run with over 50 scary Krampus in traditional, self-carved masks in the village center of Igls. Food and drink will be provided. Admission free!
