Exhibition to the Innocents illustrates restoration of art and architecture


(ANSA) – FLORENCE, DECEMBER 03 – The artistic and architectural marvels of the Basilica of the Nativity in Bethlehem are being re-proposed from today to December 18 at the Istituto degli Innocenti in Florence in the light of a restoration that lasted almost ten years and returned the faithful from all the world a symbolic place of humanity. With this exhibition also in Florence you have the opportunity to get to know the enterprise that has given new life to the artistic and architectural beauties of the most ancient Church of Christianity. The exhibition, entitled “Bethlehem Reborn: The Wonders of the Nativity”, recounts the discoveries of the new archaeological excavations and the complex restoration interventions through the eyes and voices of the pilgrims who have venerated the place of Jesus’ birth over the centuries. exhibition presents the oldest monument of Christianity through photographic blow-ups, video stations and evocative reproductions of the most significant finds, such as some paintings on the column, the mosaic of one of the angelic faces, one of the glass lamps found by archaeologists and a wonderful three-dimensional scale model 1/50 which allows you to closely observe the building in all its smallest details. The model, made in bio-plastic resins by the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the University of Pavia, is the result of work that lasted seven months during which ten 3D printers worked for over 9,730 hours.

The exhibition, strongly desired by the Embassy of Palestine to the Holy See and supported by the Palestinian High Presidential Committee for Affairs with the Churches, by the Presidential Committee for the Restoration of the Church of the Nativity in collaboration with the Bethlehem Development Foundation and the Piacenti spa of Prato, an Italian company of excellence that oversaw the restoration. In December 2019, the idea of ​​creating an exhibition was born following a presentation meeting, inside the Vatican Museums, of the results of the restoration project. (HANDLE).
