Gözübüyük announces major change in the Netherlands: ‘It is always negative’
Serdar Gözübüyük has indicated that the Dutch referees will no longer appear in front of the camera after a match in the Eredivisie. The guide deed dies at Ziggo Sportwhere he was a guest The Football Cafe. Gözübüyük states that the Dutch refereeing corps will follow the policy of UEFA and FIFA for years and that in 2023 will probably be the case.
Presenter Bas van Veenendaal and analyst Jan van Halst discuss a possible penalty moment, to which Gözübüyük picks up. “It’s good that you ask, because what we do in the Netherlands is quite unique”, the Haarlemmer refers to appearing in front of the camera after a match. “Often only if it is negative. Actually, we just want to follow the policy of UEFA and FIFA. Just don’t comment on moments.”
Van Veenendaal then responds. “Ah come on, man. This is the Netherlands.” Gözübüyük doesn’t care about that. “I have news for you: it will not happen again from the new year.” Van Halst then tries to change the subject, but Gözübüyük goes even further about the lowest news. “No, but seriously, because that’s just as important. Very often I notice, a questionable moment and then you hear within five minutes…”, he says before knocking three times on the table. “Well, then it’s one of the commentators from reporters, ‘Are you coming to say sorry like that?'”
“It’s always negative,” he continues. “And I think that’s the best negative thing. To just get in front of the camera at a bad moment.” Gözübüyük himself had already stopped with the clarity of his decisions. For example, the referee changed comments in May after Feyenoord – PSV (2-2), in which he gave an all-decisive penalty to the home team deep in injury time due to questionable hands from Mauro Júnior. PSV was eliminated in the title fight.
The words of the arbitrator are nevertheless remarkable, as the Dutch referees’ guild have been appearing in front of the camera for years to clarify controversial moments. In the program This was the weekend van ESPN controlled referee boss Dick van Egmond even on a weekly basis in the program to give his opinion on refereeing decisions.
