Former Brussels police statement writes down a rich career in a book (Brussels)
A few months after his retirement, Christian De Coninck, former representative of the Brussels Capital Ixelles police, has written down his 40-year career in a new book. ‘Flikstories’ is a collection of many anecdotes and processed in the most high-profile cases of his police career.

“Officers often star in numerous books and films, but what do we really know about real police work? The police are not only there to fight crime, but also to help, often when people are most vulnerable,” says De Coninck.
De Coninck already revealed some stories at the book presentation. For example, a radiation problem with an old lady’s television was solved with aluminum foil or a shooting competition had to be held head over heels against the police in Edinburgh, Scotland. Although there are also less pleasant stories, such as that time when a young Italian tourist had to be identified by his family who had flown over.
When De Coninck started his retirement, he went through his archives again. At that time, he is not lost that confidence. With his stories he will move, surprise or make people decide. With humor as a weapon, he tries to make ‘Flikstories’ not just about doom and gloom. It will be recognizable for the agents in Brussels, but De Coninck used initials to guarantee anonymity and changes the name of perpetrators and victims.
