December 1988, when the snow that fell on Thessalonikihas remained in the memory of many Thessalonians.
The snowfall began on the morning of the 16th of December with terrible intensity and stopped at dawn on the 18th.
In the center of Thessaloniki the snow reached 70-80 points, while in the outskirts of the city it reached up to 2 meters.
Tsimiski and other main roads were blocked off, those who could only move around with chains and the residents of Thessaloniki were locked in their homes until the snowstorm that “hit” the city passed.
The OASTH stopped working for 2 days, while schools in the entire prefecture were closed for a week.
It is noteworthy that the EMY the day before the snowfall predicted rain and storms for the city of Thessaloniki.
