The representatives of the district have been trying to transform the area for a long time. “Until recently, the land was not owned by the city of Brno. That’s why there were complications. After long negotiations, the owner of the land finally changed. So we can start working,” said the deputy mayor of Bystrce, Pavel Kříž.
The original Bystrck cemetery stood in the vicinity of the church. It was moved to the area near Vondrákova Street around 1835. It operated there until 1972. Currently, this place serves as a public park, but according to the deputy mayor, its condition is unsatisfactory. “Alcohol-loving groups gather here and leave a mess behind. In addition, some of the original walls are in a desolate state,” Kříž added.

The author of the study on the transformation of the area prepared in June is the landscape designer and architect Eva Wagnerová. However, the study is only prepared for the area of the former cemetery, it does not work with the surrounding area in any way. “We plan to develop an expanding study that will also include subsequent parts,” explained Kříž.
The plan for the current study is to preserve the linden alley and partly also the historic perimeter walls, remove long-lived trees and plant new species. According to Kříž, work could start in 2024.
