Salzburg wins Innsbruck – VSV wins Carinthian Derby
Salzburg’s clear success in Innsbruck means that the champions’ longest losing streak in over two years has come to an end. Goals from Nicolai Meyer (38./PP) and Benjamin Nissner (53.) brought the decision. Peter Schneider (59th) fixed the final score of 5:2 into the empty goal.
In the sold-out 344th Carinthian Derby, VSV was ahead twice with two goals (2:0, 3:1). However, the guests from Klagenfurt shortened the lead slightly in the final third through Matt Fraser (49th) to make it 3:3. The record champions also found a late response to Chris Collins (57th) leading the Villachers again, Nick Petersen (59th) saved his team into overtime. After goalless overtime, Alexander Rauchenwald scored decisively for VSV in the penalty shootout. The first derby of the season ended in a shoot-out as well, with KAC winning 3-2 at home.
