A huge field is expected at the 2023 World Karate Championship in Budapest
The Hungarian organizers are expecting a huge field, between 1,600 and 2,000 starters, for next year’s adult karate championship in Budapest.
The number of participating sports professionals may reach two thousand – according to Márton Falusi, the head of the organizing committee of the Hungarian federation, since the high-ranking delegation of the World Karate Federation (WKF) conducted an on-site inspection in the Hungarian capital.
The 2023 World Cup will be held between October 24 and 29 in the Papp László Budapest Sportarena, the WKF will hold its referee congress here before the top match, and international further training and exams will also take place.
“The huge number of both competitors and sports professionals is expected to be an unbreakable record, as the world championships will be held in a new format from 2024,” declared Márton Falusi. According to El, in the history of the sport, Budapest will be the last classic big World Cup to be held in a traditional format, where participants can start without a number limit, that is, one entry per country and category is possible, and individual and team competitions are also organized. In the years following the World Cup in Hungary, separate individual and team world championships will be held, where, among other things, no more than 32 people can compete in each category.
