Sugar Mizzy December 1, 2022

We are pleased to inform the readers of Vědavý bymozkum.cz that on 14 November 2022 the name of the Technology Center of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic was changed to Technology Center Prague. Under this name, the organization is registered in the federal register maintained by the Municipal Court in Prague from the above data. You can also read about the center’s activities for the month of November.

20221130TCPraha seminar

Seminar Science, research and innovation in statistics and analysis.

The existing activities of the Technology Center will not be affected by the name change and will continue to focus on the involvement of Czech research in the European Research Area, support for strategic decision-making in research and innovation, development of Czech innovative companies and international technology transfer.

We have hosted conferences on the topic of intellectual property in the world of the metaverse

If you look up the term metaverse (or metaverse) in a search engine, you will find information about a 3D world that you can access via the Internet, that already has several thousand people living in it and that has created its own economy. TC Praha hosted a conference called IP in the Metaverse, organized by the Licensing Executives Society (LES) of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, which we co-organised.

You can read more about the next generation digital platform here.

Mediation as an alternative to litigation

The seminar held at TC Praha at the end of October was also focused on the topic of intellectual property. Enforcement of intellectual property rights in the form of mediation is not yet widely used in the Czech Republic, although it has many advantages. It offers more control over the process and outcome of dispute resolution and reduces tension between participants. It thus creates the potential for maintaining good relations and space for possible future cooperation. The fundamental difference from the judicial hearing of the matter is obligation of confidentiality and non-publicity of mediation proceedings, which is extremely important for the protection of know-how and trade secrets. According to world statistics, conflict resolution through mediation 75% success rate.

You can read more about our seminar with representatives of the Industrial Property Office and IP Mediation Center Prague here.

We organized a national information campaign on the Horizon Europe calls

The information campaign of the Technology Center Prague aimed at presenting the challenges of the thematic clusters of the Horizon Europe program for the period 2023–2024 appeared in the penultimate week of November. For six National information days registered for individual thematic clusters almost 450 participants. The campaign was hybrid, but the participants were also happy to come in person. In addition to the presentation of upcoming topics, the discussion with successful project solvers and project coordinators attracts attention. Presentation from selected events are available on the Horizont Europe website. If you didn’t have time to visit the information days, ours national liaison officers they are available and answer your questions at any time in the future. Contact them even if you are thinking about coordination research projects.

Research, development and innovation in statistics and analysis

The annual seminar, which we organize together with the Czech Statistical Office, had a subtitle this year Business research and its support. On November 22, 50 participants came to TC Praha to get acquainted with the latest results of the survey on research and development in companies, to hear the outputs of the project Evaluation of the economic impacts of research and development support in the corporate sector, or why and how innovation capacities are mapped.

You can open or download the speakers’ presentations on the strategic studies website here.

We have published a new TC Praha brochure – European Research Council (ERC) Grants

Publications it is not intended only for applicants for ERC grants, but also for their solvers and project managers, both in the phase of project preparation and during their implementation. It offers a quick orientation in the five types of ERC grants, informs about the method of submitting project proposals and their evaluation, presents the basic principles of financing ERC grants incl. cost reporting, reporting, control and audits.

At the end of the series, he also briefly summarizes the issues of ethics, open science, the dissemination and use of research results, and the right to intellectual property. Contains useful advice and tips collected by National Contacts (NCPs) in their daily work, and mainly through collaboration with members expert groups to support applicants in ERC calls, other evaluators and ERC grant holders.

We mapped the cooperation in the ERC CZ program

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MŠMT) announced it already in 2012 ERC CZ program with a goal support for excellent research in the Czech Republic. Only projects submitted to some of the ERC results that have been successfully evaluated (category A or B) can be financed from this program, but did not receive support from European funds due to the limit of the overall financial framework.

TC Praha created for “Analysis of the effects of projects of the Ministry of Education and Culture ERC-CZ program on the level of international cooperation of their beneficiaries” scientometric maps. They represent network of co-authors of outputs created within the ERC CZ program at the national and international level. Interactive versions of the map are published on the website here.

How to read maps? The size of the nodes (circles) is proportional number of publications created in co-authorship by the given institution and connector thickness between nodes is proportional number of joint publications of a pair of institutions. The distance between nodes to represent the degree of interaction between institutions is measured as the number of co-authorships.
