Drunk driver crashed into guardrail
On Thursday, December 1st, 2022, at around 2:20 a.m., the operations center of the Munich police reported a traffic accident in the Vogelweideplatz area at the entrance to the Richard Strauss Tunnel.
A 45-year-old resident of Munich was found on site in a Mercedes car. The car is standing in the opposite direction of travel in the access road to the Richard Strauss Tunnel. A field of debris from vehicle parts stretched across the road and the car was completely destroyed up to the beginning of the passenger compartment.
According to the current status of the investigation, the 45-year-old will initially illegally take the bus lane into town, then change lanes at high speed in the direction of the Richard Strauss Tunnel and lose control of his vehicle in the process. The car then crashed almost head-on into the crash barrier and a light pole, causing it to be thrown back and coming to a standstill in the oncoming lane.
The VW car of a 58-year-old resident of the Erding district, which exited the tunnel at the time of the accident, was also damaged by flying parts.
The 45-year-old was taken to hospital by ambulance for evaluation. Larger findings were not recognizable on site. After the 45-year-old was found to be clearly under the influence of alcohol, a blood sample was taken.
The access to the Richard-Strauss-Tunnel and the opposite direction had to be closed for several hours while the accident was being recorded and the subsequent cleaning work was being carried out. There were massive traffic disruptions.
The Munich traffic police took over the further investigations.
