Berlin House of Representatives discusses faster naturalization

Berlin (dpa/bb) – How the naturalization of people without German citizenship can be improved and accelerated is an important topic in the House of Representatives on Thursday. This will be debated right at the beginning of the plenary session. The Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD) also comments on the subject. For more than 20 years, between 6,000 and 7,000 foreigners have been naturalized in Berlin every year. The Senate will increase the number to as many as 20,000 per year.
One building block for this is the planned central naturalization center for all of Berlin, which is scheduled to start work in the course of the next year. Red-Green-Red expects to lengthen the process and shorten the waiting time by centralizing naturalization. Sometimes it is several years.
In addition, the state parliament is dealing, among other things, with the provision of lessons at Berlin schools, the motion for a resolution on solidarity with the people of Iran and the demand of the FDP parliamentary group to abolish 30 km/h zones on main streets.
