Representatives of the Archdiocese of Salzburg and the Homosexual Initiative (HOSI) met for the first time in a panel discussion on Wednesday. The discussion participants emphasized that it is about more togetherness in working together.
In order to have contact persons for homosexual people in the church in the future, a rainbow ministry has been set up in Salzburg, says the head of the pastoral office of the Catholic Church, Lucia Greiner.
“The intention was that we, as church institutions, each had individual initiatives that had lasted for a long time. Then we said – prompted by the future process – that we would try to encourage each other more,” says Greiner. It is also about what has already been acquired in terms of “language skills, knowledge and experience”, better and to offer people contact persons.
Exhibition against exclusion and discrimination
However, there is still exclusion and discrimination against homosexual people in the church. An exhibition in the Salzburg Collegiate Church will draw attention to this tension and can be seen until January 8th.
“Faith should be a resource and not an obstacle to a fulfilling life,” says HOSI Salzburg. Contact with religious communities is very important, because ultimately there are more things that unite than divide.
