The Republic of Moldova participates for the first time in a meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers. Aurescu: A welcome premiere
The Republic of Moldova is participating for the first time in a meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs from the member states of the North Atlantic Alliance, and this is “a welcome first”, Minister Bogdan Aurescu emphasized on Wednesday.
The clarifications were made before the second day of the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the member states of the North Atlantic Alliance, held at the Palace of the Parliament. On Wednesday morning, the meeting of the North Atlantic Council takes place in the session of foreign ministers, with Finland and Sweden.
“Today we will have two sessions. One dedicated to China and strengthening resilience within the Alliance, as well as combating terrorism, the Western Balkans and combating threats. These are on the agenda of the first session. The second session is very important for Romania, because we have our partners.
Partners from the Western Balkans, partners from the Black Sea region, Georgia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Republic of Moldova. It is the first time that Moldova participates in a meeting of Foreign Ministers from NATO countries. It is a welcome premiere”, said Aurescu.
According to him, during the discussions on Wednesday, the importance of the Black Sea region for the security of the Alliance will be highlighted. Aurescu emphasized support for Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, noting that Romania has similar goals in this country.
“We maintain our support for the Bucharest summit declaration of 2008, which indicated that Georgia and Ukraine will become members of the Alliance when the conditions are met. We strongly support this goal. For this reason, we recently increased the level of the relationship between Georgia and Romania . at the level of strategic partnership, during the visits of the President of Georgia to Bucharest”, declared Aurescu.
He mentioned that during the discussions on Tuesday, the way in which Ukraine can be helped was addressed, but also that Romania will increase its contribution within the assistance package.
“We had deep discussions about how we could best help Ukraine deal with the challenges it would face against the deal. There were a number of concrete commitments expressed during the meeting. We had two meetings dedicated to Ukraine – an important support for NATO’s assistance package regarding non-lethal aid intended for Ukraine. comprehensive package of assistance. I also presented the aid provided by Romania on a bilateral level, a multidimensional aid, for Ukraine,” said the minister, quoted by Agerpres.
The head of Romanian diplomacy added that the Black Sea was a topic present on the agenda of the discussions.
“I emphasized the importance of the Black Sea for the security of the Alliance. I also emphasized the importance of the timely and full implementation of their decisions from the Madrid summit, especially those related to the strengthening of the posture on the Rock Flank and in the southern Eastern Flank, on the Black Sea, where Romania is also located. (…) At the same time, I welcome the ministerial declaration adopted yesterday. Not all ministerial meetings have a dedicated declaration, to highlight the most important aspects of the meeting”, said the Romanian minister.
