The Oerlikon center is to be upgraded
As the city of Zurich states, one-off new expenditures of CHF 819,000 were approved for upgrading measures in Hofwiesenstrasse and Schulstrasse.
The road construction project concerns the section of Hofwiesenstrasse between the Neumarkt building and Oerlikon train station and the section of Schulstrasse from Hofwiesenstrasse to Franklinplatz.
For motorized private transport (MIV) future one-way traffic in the direction of Franklinplatz applies to the last one.
Pedestrians will have a larger pedestrian area in the area of the ramp to the Neumarkt multi-storey car park.
Due to the “Velostrategie 2030”, Hofwiesenstrasse is to be redesignated as the main route and Schulstrasse as the preferred route.
Row of trees in the school street
In return, the Schulstrasse remains passable for bicycle traffic in both directions. A new cycle lane will be marked in the direction of the train station, as well as in Hofwiesenstrasse in the direction of Franklinstrasse.
In the opposite direction, the bike remains on the separate MIV lane as before.
In addition, the civil engineering office will create 41 parking spaces for two-wheelers. In Schulstraße, the existing row of trees will be supplemented with four additional trees.
This is to reduce the heat.
Road surfaces and curbs are renewed
The six white parking spaces on Schulstraße are given preference to the additional 41 parking spaces for two-wheelers.
With the parking garage Neumarkt there is a sufficiently large alternative offer. The two taxi ranks and the goods handling area in front of Schulstraße 44 will remain.
In the project area, the civil engineering office is revising the road surfaces and curbs.
Construction is scheduled to start in autumn 2023
die VBZ renew the track systems in Hofwiesenstrasse.
Since the public transport route in Hofwiesenstraße has to be widened for standard reasons, the separate MIV lane in the direction of Franklinstraße is no longer available.
The MIV WILL be managed there together with the public transport.
The earliest the start of construction is from autumn Planned for 2023 and still has to be coordinated with the ongoing private high-rise buildings at the same time.
