Scholz promises to support Ukraine until victory in the war
Germany and its allies will continue to support Ukraine in the fight against the Russian aggressor until the very victory in the war.
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced this at the Berlin Security Conference on November 30, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“We continue to support Ukraine as much as necessary: economically, financially, humanitarianly, through the reconstruction of the destroyed energy infrastructure – and also with weapons,” the chancellor emphasized, admitting that this war affects the Germans as well.
According to him, Ukraine should be given the opportunity to exercise its legal right to self-defense. But it also serves to protect Europe’s security architecture, Scholz noted. He is convinced that Russia cannot and will not win if it is unleashed by it the war.
“Relentless attacks on vital infrastructure, on water and energy networks, on Ukrainian cities and villages are a terrible and at the same time desperate scorched earth strategy,” said the head of the German government.
Russia’s behavior in Ukraine has led to changes in the security environment throughout Europe, the chancellor stated. He assured that Germany learned from this lesson for its own protection and support.
Scholz also said that the West takes the Russian regime’s irresponsible nuclear rhetoric very seriously. “But we will not allow ourselves to be intimidated,” the politician assured. To this end, he, the federal government decided to purchase F-35 fighter jets as part of the German nuclear program.
Nearly one and a half thousand politicians, military personnel, and experts – mainly from NATO countries – are taking part in the two-day Berlin security conference.
