Relocation of senior citizens’ residence: shortened notice period for municipal apartments
The City Council has decided that the notice period for tenants of city-owned apartments should be shortened if they move into a senior citizens’ home.
SALZBURG. The city has agreed a three-month notice period with the tenants of the 1,700 city-owned apartments. City councilor for social affairs Anja Hagenauer and city councilor for building Anna Schiester are now demanding that tenants moving into a senior citizens’ home should be exempted from this rule. In this case, a one-month notice period should apply.
Don’t add extra burden
Discussions are already underway with the non-profit housing developers. The city is also appealing to private landlords not to fully exhaust the notice period when a tenant moves into a retirement home. “When someone moves into a retirement home, it is often a difficult step anyway. We don’t want to burden the people here with the ongoing rent as well,” says Hagenauer.
City Councilor Schiester emphasizes: “The shorter notice period means that the senior citizens concerned incur less costs in an already challenging living situation, we can refurbish the apartment more quickly and thus find a new tenant more quickly”.
