In October 2022, the editorial staff Freedom/Actu.fr wondered what would become of the building on the Boulevard Leclerc in Caen (Calvados) and who welcomed the C&A brand. Since its closure in June 2020the building remained empty.
“No project for Caen to date”
In the comments under the publication of the article, many people attended the opening of a Primark at this location. Nothing will happen. At least for now.
The low-cost ready-to-wear brand has announced the opening of 7 stores in France (Angers, Brest, Grenoble (Echirolles), Mulhouse, Nantes, Rouen and Saint-Etienne) between December 2022 and December 2023 but Caen is not on the list.
To date, we have no plans for Caen.
In October, during his interview, the mayor of Caen explained the mechanisms that occur when a large brand is set up in a city. “When you get a new sign, it is in a position of strength, it always negotiates. “He rightly cited the example of Primark which “asked six months of free rent, so much it boosts the attendance of shopping centers”.
The C&A building still empty, for now
On his side, the owner of the former C&A building, does not announce any imminent project either. “For the moment, nothing has been advanced,” he explains to Freedom/Actu.fr. The situation is not favourable. “In October, the mayor of Caen put forward the idea of a project, but which was “top secret”. It will remain so for a little longer if we are to believe the owner of the building of around 3,500 m2which hammers once again: “there is nothing concrete”.
