Barcelona Wine Week shows the Spanish wine wealth
Barcelona Wine Week 2023 will again be the great platform of national and international promotion of Spanish wine quality. Important wineries and designations of origin will complete the best of their offer to the market, with the aim of opening up new business opportunities. In addition, a centenary of experts will analyze the challenges of the sector and will show the variety and uniqueness of the wine-growing soils of Spain.
The next edition of Barcelona Wine Week, which will take place from February 6 to 8, 2023 at the Fira de Barcelona Montjuïc venue, will bring together the Spanish wine sector to offer business opportunitiesanalyze its future challenges and give visibility to the great richness of the country’s soils and its wine-growing potential.

More than 700 wineries
The event will be the first major event of the year for the sector and will include the participation of 700 cellars, 15% more than in 2022, and 60 Denominations of Origin and other quality seals. Just over two months before its celebration, BWW already exceeds 90% occupancy, with large confirmed firms such as Protos, Matarromera, Rioja Vega, Pago de los Capellanes, Juvé & Camps, Recaredo and Freixenet.
Hundreds of medium and small wineries grouped into DOs such as Cava, Ribera del Duero, Rueda, Priorat, Bierzo, Madrid, Valencia, Jumilla, Costers del Segre, Navarra or Valderroas have also confirmed their attendance.
“Symbol of tradition and culture”
The fair was presented this week in Madrid, with the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planasand the president of the hall, Javier Pages. Precisely, the representative of the Government has assured that The Spanish wine sector “is a symbol of tradition and culture, and at the same time, vanguard and progress” which also contributes to the economic development of rural areas.

High quality wines
The show will be held under the motto ‘Spain, singular mosaic of soils’ and they offer a program of conferences, tastings and weddings to value the richness of the soils that make up the Spanish wine region. The president of BWW 2023, Javier Pagés, stressed that BWW “is a global platform to show the enormous quality of Spanish wine to continue climbing in value and perceived quality, a challenge that requires strategy and resources.” “It is a show that has firmly established itself in the fair calendar thanks to the success of previous editions and represents the first major event of the year for the wine sector at a European level”, he added.
He has also pointed out the high quality standards of the national wine, the high degree of technological development of the sector and the prestige enjoyed by its productions throughout the world and which places Spain as the largest wine exporter. “The world of wine is the one that has best adapted to changes in consumer trends,” he stressed.
Connection bridge with buyers
To promote the international projection of Spanish wine, the show has invited more than 500 international buyers with the strategic collaboration of ICEX Exportation and Investments. These are purchasing decision-makers from large international groups that will come from the main importing markets for Spanish wine: the United States, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Colombia and Belgium, among other countries.
In addition, there will also be more of 1,300 key buyers in the national market, coming from large distribution, wholesale centers, specialized distributors, retailers and gourmet stores. Soon, the participating companies will be able to start an agenda of meetings with all of them through an online platform. More than 8,000 business meetings are expected between exhibitors at the show and professional buyers.

In addition, the show will once again become an essential event for the sector and a meeting point between its main operators and thousands of national and international professionals interested in the potential and quality of Spanish wine production.
The inexhaustible wealth of the English terroir
Under the motto “Spain, singular mosaic of soils”, BWW 2023 will present a program of conferences and tastings in which the great wealth of soils that make up the Spanish wine territory will be valued.
The exhibitions of renowned experts who are also dedicated to the production and elaboration of wine in different areas of Spain such as the Masters of Wine stand out. norel robertsonthat since 2003 produces its wines in Calatayud; fernando morawith vineyards in different parts of Aragon; and Andreas Kubachdirector of Península Vinicultores, with wineries in La Rioja Alavesa, among other points. Alvaro Ribalta, Master of Wine in 2021 and founder of Massal Selection, will participate as a moderator. The challenge of sustainability and innovation
For its part, the BWWHub space will host conferences and round tables on trends and challenges such as sustainability, innovation or digitization. Topics such as the land management of vineyards in the face of climate change, the benefits of ecodesign, new ways to reuse bottles, the digital transformation of viticulture, the protection of the country’s old vines or how to better communicate Spanish wine.
In this next edition, BWW will also make a firm commitment to strengthen wine synergies with haute cuisine, a great ambassador of the Spanish food industry abroad. Thus, in collaboration with ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones, a round table will be held with international restaurants recognized with the Restaurants from Spain international gastronomic quality distinction.
BWW 20022 was already a success
The last edition of BWW, in April 2022, brought together more than 650 exhibiting companies, 60 Spanish Denominations of Origin and more than 18,000 professional visitors. Among them, 470 large international buyers from strategic markets who participated in nearly 6,600 business meetings with exhibiting companies.
