The stage performance of the famous and very popular Czech Christmas Mass by Jakub Jan Ryba was presented by the Prague Symphony Orchestra last season.
“The performance immediately became a hit and it was clear that it would be included in the regular seasonal repertoire of the Prague Symphony Orchestra. The combination of Jakub Jan Ryba’s music with the magical world of puppets of the Lampion Theater and the director of magical stories Matěj Forman creates a truly poetic experience that I believe they will be happy to return to.” says FOK dramaturge Martin Rudovský.
The Czech Christmas Mass from the pen of Jakub Jan Ryba is a traditional piece that accompanies this festive season every year in many forms. That’s why director and artist Matěj Forman decided on a somewhat different, unique, rich treatment that awakens all the senses.
“In a relatively large shepherd’s play, the atmosphere of the announcement, anticipation and preparation for the birth of Jesus and the subsequent joy of his birth is brilliantly created. Ryba was also the author of a verse text in the Czech language. His goal was not simply to amaze the listeners, to dazzle them with pomp, but, without pathos, on the other hand, to evoke the atmosphere of that holy night and the events following it in a sufficiently warm, genuine and comprehensible manner. With this composition, he wanted to reach people of different social strata, education and age, to draw every listener into a joyful event, so that he could really experience it in his heart, not just passively perceive it as something unattainable.” adds to the composition and its creation conductor Zdeněk Klauda.
All performances in the Church of St. Šimon and Judy are already completely sold out, the stage adaptation of Matěj Forman’s Rybovka will also be performed in the Smetana hall of the Municipal House, this time with the FOK orchestra on December 21 and 22, 2022. The last tickets for these performances are available at www.fok.cz.
The show is suitable for the whole family with children aged six and over.
