The authorities of the Republic of Moldova announce a 74% electricity deficit for today – 29.11.2022
The state company Moldelectrica reported that the entire forecasted quantity of electricity consumption in the republic was not contracted for today, anticipating a deficit of around 74%, reports Deschide.md, according to Agerpres.
The anticipated shortfall will be covered by an emergency power supply contract, a designated company.
At the beginning of November, Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu, Minister of Infrastructure and Development, announced that the Republic of Moldova buys over 80% of the required volume of electricity from Romania. The Republic of Moldova concluded a contract with two Romanian companies for the supply of up to 12% of the total required. The rest is bought on the Romanian stock market, according to NewsMaker.md.
In a televised intervention yesterday evening, Minister Andrei Spînu explained that “there has been a significant increase in the price of electricity on European markets, including in Romania”.
“We will see what the price is. I have always said that in the case of emergency energy, unfortunately, we cannot know in advance what the price is. Energocom buys on the Romanian electricity exchange every day. Today (Monday), we had a phenomenon that it is still not clear, we had a significant increase in the price of electricity on the European markets, including in Romania. In practice, we had increases of 30-40%,” said the Moldovan minister, quoted by Deschide.md.
The supplier “Energocom bid a lower price on this exchange, but unfortunately it was not able to buy electricity for the whole day and for all the hours it bid for. In this sense, Moldelectrica requested emergency power from Transelectrica “, the transport and system operator from Romania, indicated the Moldovan deputy prime minister.
Asked about the price for emergency electricity, Andrei Spînu said that it varies between 200-300 euros MW, depending on the day and time.
At the same time, the deputy prime minister said that the Moldovan authorities continue discussions with Tiraspol for the resumption of electricity supplies from the Cuciurgan Power Plant. He indicated that there will be another meeting today to discuss the plans for December.
Starting from November 1, the Republic of Moldova no longer receives electricity from Cuciurgan (Transnistria).
At the same time, the Moldovan deputy prime minister warned of the risk of power outages in the Republic of Moldova today, in case of possible massive Russian missile attacks on Ukraine, Radio Chisinau reports.
“In case of such a situation, all services are prepared to intervene and restore the supply of electricity in limited terms. Let’s be cautious and prepared!”, mentioned the Moldovan minister in the message posted on the Facebook page.
Since the beginning of October, Russian forces have launched missiles about once a week over Ukraine with the aim of destroying the Ukrainian energy grid, paralyzing the country’s supply of energy and heating agent, writes Ziarul de Gardă. Because of these attacks, several regions of the Republic of Moldova, including Chisinau, are also affected, adds the cited source.
