Salzburg art project: Spraying graffiti in the Caritas day center
In the day center of the Haus Elisabeth of Caritas Salzburg, visitors can be artistically visualized on a white wall.
SALZBURG. When you see the wall in front of the day center of the Haus Elisabeth of Caritas Salzburg, you ask yourself whether this is legal: graffiti, colorful symbols and motivating slogans as far as the eye can see. The colorful wall painting is not only legal, but desirable, explains Melanie Fritzer, head of the day center at Caritas Haus Elisabeth.
“Positive Effect”
In the Haus Elisabeth day center in Salzburg, everyone will find a safe space with food, a relaxation area, advice, showers and toilets. Especially in times of the Teufelswelle there is a sharp increase in the number of visitors, says director Melanie Fritzer. Visitors to the day center are often mentally disturbed or have had problems. Art is a means of creating distraction from everyday life and promoting self-efficacy, creativity and the ability to reflect.
“We noticed that art has a positive effect on our clients,” says Fritzer. Social worker Florian Koti, himself an artist, and volunteer Viktoria Haas finally implemented the idea of beautifying the dreary wall in front of Haus Elisabeth together with clients.
Topics to be taken up were considered in advance. These stand as keywords on the wall. Once a week, visitors to the day center artistically express what they mean by this. “It’s impressive what kind of talent comes out there,” says Koti.
