In Zurich there will be Mediterranean nights again in 2023
In the coming year, restaurants with a garden in the city of Zurich will be allowed to remain open longer on six weekends in summer. Approval for this can be applied for by the end of the year.
(Keystone-SDA) The city of Zurich draws an overall positive conclusion about the first implementation of the “Mediterranean Nights” during the summer holidays, as announced on Tuesday. The fear that there would be more noise complaints did not come true.
Therefore, there should be a new edition of the experiment in the summer of 2023. Gastro establishments with a garden restaurant may be open until 2 a.m. on six weekends – instead of only until midnight.
Start with the Zürifäscht
The Mediterranean Nights 2023 start on the weekend of July 7th to 8th, 2023, i.e. at the same time as the Zürifäscht. According to the announcement, the same conditions apply as this year: Only existing boulevard cafés and garden restaurants receive a permit. A hotline will be set up for residents. There are no permits for businesses in particularly noise-sensitive zones or in inner courtyards.
Various neighborhood associations in the city of Zurich were critical of the project from the start. They feared that the already high level of noise pollution WILL increase due to the extended opening times.
Whether there will be the Mediterranean Nights every year is currently open. With the trial operation over a period of two years, the city council is fulfilling the demand for a postulate in the municipal council. After the second execution, an evaluation takes place.
