“Difficult phenomena like Ischia but San Marino is not immune”
In the latest general report, ISPRA, the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research, highlights that 91% of Italian municipalities are hydrogeological risk. Over 3 million, in total, the families who continue to live in the danger zone. Among the most exposed regions is theEmilia Romagna and consequently also the territory of San Marino.
“The lands of San Marino – he explains Christian Wargeologist – I am altogether analogues to those of the neighboring region Emilia Romagna. The phenomena are known and are different from those of Ischia, however ours is a fragile territory from the hydrogeological point of view and the problems that may exist in the stability of the slopes”.
The greatest risks for San Marino, adds Guerra, may come from sudden detachments of boulders from the mountain, but in safety thanks to the metal containment nets. It is difficult for phenomena like in Casamicciola to occur: “The geological conditions are extremely different. In Ischia there is a particular geological configuration which favors that type of phenomena. Here the geological configuration is different, there are other types of phenomena but no less to take into consideration. We’ll probably never get to those levels though we are not immune to anything“.
