A piece of the ceiling fell under the subway train. Line B didn’t run during peak hours, it can’t keep up with the buses
At the Nové Butovice station, around 8:30 a.m., people were instructed to board the subway again. Shortly after that, the train started towards Černý Most.
The subway stopped running during the morning rush hour at about 7:20 a.m. For a short time, traffic was interrupted in the entire route B, then in the section Florenc – Nové Butovice, the operator of Prague’s integrated transport said on Twitter.
The spokeswoman of the transport company, Aneta Řehková, said that the reason for the morning collapse of traffic was a technical defect in the ceiling at the Smíchovské nádraží station, which occurred at a quarter to eight. A ceiling soffit holding cables fell under the set, causing a short circuit and smoke. After all, one of the employees of the transport company confirmed this to the editor of iDNES.cz.
Trains from Zličín arrived at Nové Butovice station. There were hundreds of people waiting for replacement buses, the buses were then completely overcrowded. People waiting called to work or school and apologized that they could not make it due to the collapse of traffic. Other passengers then board their regular bus lines on the platform in Butovice.
Tram traffic was also congested. “If you don’t free up the door space, we simply won’t go anywhere. Thank you for your understanding,” asks the tram driver in Florence.
