University Children’s Hospital Zurich wins PR-Image Award 2022 with thanks in the operating room!
The PR-Image Award for the best PR photo of the year Switzerland goes to the University Children’s Hospital Zurich in 2022. The image “Thank you in the operating room!” Was able to assert itself against around 450 applications. The award-winning photo shows a mother thanking the surgeon after the successful operation on her unborn baby. The dpa subsidiary news aktuell has announced the PR picture award for outstanding PR photography by companies, organizations and agencies for the 17th time.
“This year’s winning pictures show touching moments and tell moving stories – with a lot of creativity and a high level of craftsmanship. Many of the award-winning motifs take up important topics of our time – whether social commitment, climate crisis or digitization. They make us think, make us smile or amazement – and prove that great emotions are the most important drivers for successful PR photography,” says Eljub Ramic, Managing Director of news aktuell (Schweiz) AG.
Barbora Prekopová, photographer at the University Children’s Hospital Zurich, on her winning image: “There are hardly any bigger emotional rollercoaster rides than when it comes to children’s health. With this picture I wanted to capture a touching moment after an operation on an unborn child and its mother. Martin Meuli – the surgeon in the photo – has also made a name for himself as a pioneer and master of fetal surgery outside of Switzerland. He was one of the first to operate on fetuses with an open spine, saving the lives of many children.”
news aktuell Managing Director Eljub Ramic on the winning photo: “Operating on an unborn baby in the mother’s womb is a medical feat that we laypeople can hardly imagine. The facial expression of the surgeon also shows that it can be incredibly fulfilling and enjoyable to work for others. The picture is therefore also a motivation for everyone who does their best every day in the medical field and helps people.”
The photo of the University Children’s Hospital Zurich with the caption “Thank you in the operating room!” convinced the jury and the public alike and achieved the best overall rating for Switzerland. It also took first place in the Stories & Campaigns category.
For Germany, two photos were awarded the best PR photos of the year for the first time this year due to equal points: the photo “Awakened: the heath is in bloom” by Lüneburger Heide GmbH and the photo “Breathing deeply” by the Cologne fire brigade. The best PR image of the year from Austria is the photo “Back to the daily structure” by the Jugend am Werk association.
In total, around 450 images were submitted for this year’s PR-Image Award. In a first step, a specialist jury of communication and media professionals shortlisted 60 motifs. Afterwards, the specialist public made up of communication experts voted on the pictures with more than 42,000 votes. Public voting and the votes of the expert jury jointly decided on the winners. At the award ceremony, the first three places from the six categories of lifestyle, NGO photo, social media photo, stories & campaigns, travel and portrait were awarded, as well as the winning photos for Switzerland, Germany and Austria.
After a two-year break due to Corona, the award ceremony took place again in person, this year in a smaller group with invited guests in the ballroom of Le Méridien in Hamburg. Radio presenter and journalist Alicia Alvarez hosted the evening.
