Sweden’s Riksdag adopts new gaming legislation – European Gaming Industry News
The Lithuanian gambling regulator has issued another fine to UAB Olympic Casino Group Baltija following another violation of the country’s advertising laws.
The authority fined Olympic Casino €25,000 after it found the operator had information on its website about how customers could watch sporting events live on Setanta Sports, but also encouraged users to bet on sports.
The text in question sets out how customers would watch live coverage of events such as the Spanish La Liga and Italian Serie A soccer leagues, as well as WTA tennis and Nascar motor racing in the US.
While the campaign stated that event coverage would be free, it also included text in relation to how customers could make deposits and withdrawals to and from their Olympic Casino account. The ad included phrases such as “Be a part of the game”.
When assessing the case, the authority found that the promotion violated Article 10, Clause 19 of the Law on Gambling in the Republic of Lithuania, which deals with encouraging people to participate in gambling.
The authority said that the information about the possibility to watch events for free was not considered a gift, but information with which the operator tried to draw attention to its services, as well as to convince and encourage people to participate in games.
However, the authority also noted that the decision was not final and could be appealed by Olympic Casino.
