Princess Stéphanie of Monaco gave the start of one of the races this Sunday. Beking offers three courses: a professional course, an amateur course for families and a charity course. The Pro/Am charity race takes place in teams and aims to raise funds for two associations, the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation and Fight Aids Monaco. Princess Stephanie attended the race as the founder and director of Fight Aids Monaco. Princess Charlene was absent and was not represented in her foundation.
The 15 teams that take part in the Pro/Am race consist of two professional cyclists, two amateur cyclists and an ambassador who represents the Princess Charlene Foundation. The Belgian Philippe Gilbert won the charity race with his team (the other professional of the team was the Frenchman Clément Champoussin) but also the individual race for professionals. The race counts in the UCI calendar of events.
Philippe Gilbert, 40, who runs for the colors of the Lotto Soudal team won the second edition of the Beijing criterium in Monaco. He completed the 40 laps of the Formula 1 circuit, ahead of Australian Michael Matthews and Slovenian Tadej Pogacar. Pogacar’s compatriot, Matej Mohoric, received the fighting spirit award.
“I am really very happy. I won both courses. The level of the competitors’ field was very high. The race was tough. I enjoyed participating in a charity event with all these champions. It was nice to end my career this way, in a place where I lived for 13 years.said Philippe Gilbert to SouthInfo.
