Iohannis: I have no signs that changes in the pro-European approach of the Republic of Moldova could be foreseen
The President of Romania does not see any risk regarding the political future of the Republic of Moldova, following some interventions by the Kremlin, being of the opinion that the power in Chisinau clearly has a pro-European and pro-reform approach.
Klaus Iohannis is not worried about the situation in Rep. Moldova PHOTO Presidency
“Moldova is a very special concern for us, for me, and not only this year, when they ran into great difficulties, we help them, but since Romania is a democratic state and Moldova has committed itself very firmly to the pro-European path. Moldova has a pro-European, pro-reform President and parliamentary majority. We are happy and encourage this pro-European and pro-reform path. We do little more than encourage, help effectively, with expertise, with very concrete things – electricity, fuel, wood, gas.“, said Klaus Iohannis, when asked about the situation in Republic of Moldova.
“However, we are very aware that, for the simple people of the Republic of Moldova, things are very complicated, and that is why we are discussing with all our allies, partners and friends to find, together, ways to help the Republic of Moldova. Personally, I don’t have any signs that changes are foreseen in the approach of the Republic of Moldova, but, on the contrary, I think that people have understood very well that it is a very complicated job, both for them and for us, but that does not mean that the reforms will stop” , added the leader from the Cotroceni Palace.
The infrastructure is lacking
The President of Romania drew attention to the problems related to infrastructure in the Republic of Moldova. “For us, in Romania, the challenge is big, because, apart from reform and punctual support, which we are very willing to give, there is a need to build a lot of interconnection infrastructure, bridges, networks and so on , We too. we are ready to do all these things together. Of course, it is extremely important that the Republic of Moldova remains firmly committed to being pro-European and democratic, and pro-reform, but, on the other hand, it is clear that the ordinary citizens there, the local administrations also need support. additional, which we are willing to provide“, added Klaus Iohannis.
Instead, the head of state came with a clear appeal to colleagues from natothat is, a practical plan in case of escalation of events in the region.
“More defense force, deterrence on the Eastern Flank is needed. I said this a long time ago, from the beginning, to be very specific, and even today, with Mr. Secretary General, I discussed these matters. In my opinion, an increased number of allied troops is needed, but this is not enough. Additionally, to be able to represent a solid deterrence and defense requires equipment, specifically pre-positioned equipment. We discussed these things, and the increase in presence, and the pre-positioning of equipment, at the Madrid Summit, but these decisions need to be made concrete. In Madrid, the decision was rather generic, everyone agreed that this had to be done, but now I want, at least that was my part, I want to get down to business. In addition, very concrete plans are needed, so that, in the event of an attack, you know very precisely who, what body and where they are sending”, the first person in the state emphasized.
