Cracow. A historic shelter turned into a “puzzle” and destroyed
This could only happen in Krakow. The historic ammunition shelter entered into the documentation of monuments was cut into “puzzles” and simply removed into rubble. Everything happened amid disputes, protests of many circles and in the light of the law.
It is hard to imagine, but to assess the conservator of monuments, in addition to remove the effects of the protection of the object. The decision on this topic “transfer” was made a few years ago during the time of the provincial conservator of monuments, J. Janczykowski. It’s called “the judgment” by many, it seems. However, first let me give you some facts about this place.
Perimeter ammunition shelter (outer ring with German Gürtel Ammunition Magazine/GMM/) “Dłubnia” is one of the objects included in the Krakow Fortress built under the specific partition. It was located at ul. Łowińskiego in Nowa Huta, about 600 years south of the operator of the armored fort 49a “Dłubnia”. The perfect one had the serial number 12, made in the 6th Fortified District “Czyżyny” Gürtla. One of the completed performances, 18 of them (a total of 24 were planned). And the only one who registered an entry in the Register of Monuments (state) reg. AND–1460/ /m of October 13, 2016 communal (item 2196). Additional inscriptions were added to the object, they were added before adding them by scratching them on the bricks.
The case is controversial because the shelter was really capable and brought real values. I know that all the time the environment of enthusiasts and historians (they came, asked, explained) also tried to publicize this opinion – but the verdict did not succeed. There were many hesitations and an attempt to change the project, road builders reportedly proposed to build the viaduct themselves. However, the conservator decided to switch to a “near function”.
An excavator and a hammer on the boom were used. Currently, the rubble and a few cut fragments of the walls of the shelter are used during the construction of the Widoma complex near the former brickyard in Zesławice. In fact, these are parts of this warehouse, because unfortunately, almost the entire ceiling has been destroyed. Only the half-round elements of the roof remain. Should I take it into account?
“Reconstruction” takes about two years to build. I also know that there was a report to the Municipal Conservator of Monuments about the “disassembly” inconsistent with the restrictions, but no intervention was undertaken. As you know, Krakow has many monuments, and officials are always strong towards the weak and the weak towards the strong.
