BILBAO, 28 Nov. (EUROPE PRESS) –
An off-duty National Police agent in Bilbao has arrested the alleged perpetrator of a robbery of a man, who turned out to be an asylum seeker, from whom he took a gold chain using the ‘pull’ method.
As reported by the General Directorate of the National Police, the events took place last week when the agent, assigned to the Scientific Police Brigade of the Higher Police Headquarters, was walking to his job.
In the Alameda de Rekalde area towards Plaza Arriquibar, he discovered how, a few meters ahead and on the opposite sidewalk, a citizen was making fuss asking for help, while another, dressed in a tracksuit, ran away from the place.
After deducing that it was used for a robbery, he pursued the thief until he caught up with him at number 35, where, after intercepting him and identifying himself as a policeman, he held him while another citizen who was in the place called emergencies
While waiting for police support, the victim approached the agent and told him that the thief had stolen a gold chain that he was wearing around his neck.
Minutes later, a Bilbao Municipal Police patrol appeared at the scene and took charge of the intervention, proceeded to arrest and transfer to police stations the alleged perpetrator of the events, an Algerian citizen with a prior record for crimes against property.
As highlighted by the National Police, later, the victim, who turns out to be an asylum seeker, contacted police officers to show his appreciation for their quick action.
