ALL ANTWERP: “You will find me here close to my favorite tree: a ginkgo” (Antwerp)
Every weekday our reporter and photographer choose a casual passerby from the street for a nice conversation. Because everyone has a story. Especially in Antwerp. Today: Fabienne De Bock (59).

“You will find me here close to my favorite tree: a ginkgo. It turns yellow beautifully in the fall. It is originally a Chinese tree. It is a species that has been around for a very long time. As a result, it symbolizes strength and longevity. This copy in the city park is very nice, but you will also find one on the Wapper.”
“I have been living in Antwerp with my husband since this summer. We’ve always said: when the kids are out of the house, we’ll come to the city. And it’s fantastic. We are from Tempe. But that was dead city. There was nothing to do there. That is different here. Yesterday we went to a theater performance in the Arenberg. And we immediately took out a subscription to the opera. Now that we live here, we go to shows and performances as often as we can.”
“We even doubted whether we couldn’t wait to move. But now we are still ‘young’, now we can still enjoy everything. We have an apartment on the Opera Square with a beautiful view over the city. Yes, we have really been able to fulfill our dream here.”
“I myself am retired. My husband still works. I take long walks every day with my dog Ziggy. Then we get on the tram and drive to places we haven’t been yet. That’s how I really get to know Antwerp. I also do volunteer work in the Oxfam Bookshop in the Quellinstraat. By the way, would you like to mention that Ziggy has its own Instagram page? Ziggy.in.de.stad, that’s what it’s called.”
