However, a few days before the event, the hotel in Debrecen canceled the reservation, which had only been fixed verbally. “The management of the hotel informs the public that, as before, it will no longer be a venue for political events,” the notices read.
THE Hungarian voice was contacted by Prémium Hotels and Suites Ltd., which operates the hotel. the owner of the company behind it, Zoltán Kotosmann, who explained the decision by saying that
“it is not compatible with the business philosophy of the hotel that the hotel should bring together a suitable political side, so neither in the past nor in the future can party events be held in the Centrum Hotel, as this could divide the potential clientele”.
The paper mentions that Zoltán Kotosmann is a key figure in the local economic life, he gained national fame with the Héliker retail chain that operates ABCs – he was a co-owner – and was then sold to Coop in 2009. He also did business with the Fidesz municipality of Debrecen several times.
This is not the first time that opposition politicians have been harmed in Debrecen. Last fall from the Belga restaurant got kicked out Péter Márki-Zay and József Pálinkás.
