Toulouse. Environmental activists plant 150 trees on the Bordeblanche wasteland
Saturday a discreet action was held on the urban wasteland of Bordeblanche in Toulouse. ANV-COP21 activists planted 150 trees on municipal land earmarked for sale to property developers.
There may not be an ecological and urban farm on the wasteland of Bordeblanche aux Pradettes in Toulouse, but there will be trees.
One hundred and fifty in total planted this Saturday by 80 people from the Action nonviolent collective ANV-COP 21 Toulouse and by residents of Pradettes. “The goal is simple, recalls Rachel, a member of this collective. We are protesting against the City’s plan to sell it to a promoter to build 375 homes there. This goes against the opinion of the inhabitants who want to create an urban farm there, considering both that the densification of the district is sufficient and that this space is one of the last islands of freshness”.
An ecological and democratic adventure which dates back three years and which at the time received the support of the Region and the European Union. The City of Toulouse is then not against and leaves fifteen months to the collective to finalize this file. However, in April 2022, the municipality rejected the project. Considering that in good condition, “this installation resulted in a significant loss of revenue, ie 3.8 million euros in the balance sheet of the PAE (Overall Development Program)”, then justified Christophe Alves, mayor of the district. A substantial sum impossible to find for project leaders.
