Planes and trains – Soon sold out
Are you planning to travel home or away this Christmas? Then you should really feel yourself if you are going to travel by plane or train and have not yet bought tickets. The most popular departures are almost full. And that means that the cheapest tickets have long since been sold.
It is especially Thursday 22 December and Friday 23 December as the busiest travel days and the days with the most tickets sold. If you haven’t bought the trip yet, then you should – in addition to being fast – also be flexible.
These are most popular
– We are experiencing that many people are preparing to travel in connection with the Christmas and New Year holidays, and some departures are starting to fill up, especially in the period just before Christmas and during Christmas Eve, especially on 26 and 27 December, and then again on the first days of January, says Eline Hyggen Skari, communications manager at Norwegian.
– The most popular departures in Norway go to the north of the country, while abroad there is high demand for destinations in Spain and to London, Berlin and Copenhagen in the coming period. We have scheduled flights for expected traffic for the upcoming holiday season, and we have not decided to set up extra flights.
Digital office
– We can go into more detail about the traffic and booking high after quarterly reporting in a few days, but on a general basis it always pays to book home for Christmas as early as possible, says press manager Tonje Sund at SAS to DinSide.
– The cheapest tickets go out first, and start the planning of the Christmas holiday early. If you haven’t had the opportunity to do so, it might be a good idea to look at the slightly less attractive departures and a few days in advance, says Sund and continues:
– This year, Christmas Eve is on a Saturday, so it is reasonable to assume that both Thursday evening and Friday will start to fill up. If you have the opportunity, we can recommend checking what is available at the beginning of that week and rather enjoy a slightly longer Christmas holiday or be the boss in a few days with a digital office where you are going.
A different Christmas
– The planes are starting to fill up, but there are still available seats. This is the slightly different Christmas with fewer days off than in other years. This is again reflected in the fact that the travel pattern is not as traditional and spreads more over the days leading up to and after Christmas and New Year, says communications manager Catharina Solli in Widerøe
Stoltabbe costs DKK 12,000
– The last days before Christmas, as especially December 22 seems to be the busiest. In Romjula we expect 27 December to be very busy, but since there are few holidays in Romjula there are still many available seats here.
After the New Year, we expect a lot of pressure on January 1 and 2, as everyday life will come after New Year’s Eve and many have to go back to work and to study. In addition to our normal flight offer, we are adding direct flights between Helgeland and Oslo as well as Lofoten and Oslo, says Solli.
Widerøe also flies quite a lot on Christmas Eve. The flights go between Bergen and Bodø, Bergen and Tromsø, from Oslo to Leknes and from Trondhjem to Evenes. These routes fly up to times on Christmas Eve itself.
Full fly
– Our departures in the days before Christmas Eve fill up well, and we expect full departures on these departures, says Anita Svanes, communications director at Flyr.
– Returns from the continent in Romjula and over New Year also look good. Rome Christmas tours and New Year tours to cities such as Paris, Berlin, Roma, Geneva, Barcelona and Nice are always popular, even this year.
We see that the sale of our tickets during the Christmas and New Year’s weekend is going well, as expected.
– Flyr has received a lot of attention in connection with the rescue package?
– We register that there is a great deal of interest around Flyr om day and the commitment, which we appreciate. It has also contributed to greater awareness of Flyr and many statements of support from former and new customers. It also affects sales in a positive direction.
– It always fills up faster the closer to the Christmas holidays we arrive, so it’s a good idea to order quickly. If you are going north for Christmas, you must hurry. Much is full, and what remains is approaching full. If you can wait until Romjula, there are several options.
For southern Norway, people like to book closer to departure, but we see that it is also booking here during the day. And we consider increasing capacity on the most popular domestic routes, concludes Anita Svanes.
We consider increasing capacity around Christmas in the hinterland.
On track
If you have to take the train, the situation is a little different than in air traffic. The companies Vy, SJ Nord and Go Ahead share most of the route network in Norway between themselves.
Dag Brekkan, press contact at Go-Ahead, says this:
– It is still a reasonably good place. But from mid-December we expect it to increase a lot. If you know you have to take the train, it’s a good idea to secure your seat now, and now is also a good chance to get the cheapest tickets if you are flexible about the time of travel
– For Bergensbanen, it starts to get quite full in the run-up to Christmas, and some departures are sold out, says Kaja Rynning Moen, press officer at Vy.
– The busiest days are December 22 and 23 before Christmas, and December 26 and 27 in Romjula.
Full together
– When it comes to Eastern Norway, it is difficult to say anything about the situation, as there are usually not that many pre-orders, and the orders that do come are usually just a day or so ahead of the journey. But it is often the same days that are busy as on the Bergen Railway.
This is how you can get 300,000
For those who have not ordered yet, we can advise you to take the night train. There is good capacity on the chairs, and on 11 December we will get new deckchairs. It puts in some extra trains and extra carriages on the Bergen Railway from and including 19 December, so that we have to get everyone who is going to travel in Christmas,
At SJ Nord, too, it is starting to clog up.
– It starts to get a lot together in a few days, says Hilde Lyng, head of information SJ Norway.
– Several of our trains are already sold out, especially in the run-up to Christmas. Everyone wants to go home at the same time, closer to Christmas Eve. While the journey back to everyday life is more beyond Christmas and into the new year.
The train company will soon install an extra carriage on the trains from Trondheim to Bodø in the last week before Christmas, so if you want to go north to Bodø or Helgeland, it’s smart to follow the website in the next few days.
