Peskov on oil price ceiling: Russia won’t shoot itself in the foot
Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that Russia’s position on trade in importers with countries that control price restrictions on them has not changed. He added that there are nuances in this regard that require processing. Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia would not trade with countries that decide to introduce a price ceiling.
“Look, while we proceed from the embassy of President Putin that we will not trade oil and oil products with producers of countries and we will not gas. Therefore, for now, this is the position,” Dmitry Peskov said in the program “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin” on TV channel “Russia 1”.
“There are a lot of nuances that need to be reminded. “Therefore, the well-known definition, so to speak, the schedule set by the president, you can still express confidence that in any case there will be no shooting in our country,” Peskov added. According to him, the Kremlin is watching the discussion of marginal prices for Russian oil.
As part of the eighth package, it is planned to introduce restrictions on Russian oil from December 5, and on oil products from February 5. The US Treasury has set a cap of around $40-60 per barrel. According to Bloomberg, the EU is considering a ceiling of $60-70. Poland and the Baltic countries require a maximum price of $30. EU countries have not yet agreed on a price range due to disagreements. Bloomberg reports that the Kremlin has set a decree that bans the Russian oil company and oil traders that set the price ceiling.
