For the first time in history, the World Championship race in automobile competitions will take place in the Czech Republic next year. At the end of October, the Central European Rally will start here, which will also take place in Germany and Austria. The twelfth episode of the series will be jointly organized by the national sports authorities of all three countries. The holding of the race was officially confirmed by the Autoklub České republiky (AČR) and the promoter of the series on their official website.
“The FIA World Rally Championship in the Czech Republic has been the dream of our fans for many generations. And together with our friends from the partner federations of Germany and Austria, we managed to fulfill it,” stated the president of the ACR Jan Šťovíček in a press release.
The International Automobile Federation was supposed to approve the WRC calendar already in October, but in the end postponed the decision. She published the plan for the year 2023 today, and it also includes the Central European Rally, which will start in Prague and the Czech part will be held on tracks in the south-west of the country. The center of the rally will be Passau, Germany.
“Rallying is one of the most popular disciplines of motor sports in our country, many Czech fans follow the World Championship competitions and now they can see it for the first time at home. Due to the deep tradition of the Czech automotive industry, we can look at the World Rally Championship with the pride of fulfilling the legacy of our ancestors, the pioneers of motoring.” said Šťovíček and praised the cooperation with the representatives of Germany and Austria. “The rally will certainly enhance the intention to start it in Prague, the heart of Europe,” added the president of the ACR.
The new WC season will traditionally start in January in Monte Carlo, the Mexican and Chilean rallies are returning to the calendar after the covid-19 pandemic. The Central European Rally from October 26 to 29 will be the penultimate race of the series. The championship will end in mid-November in Japan.
